SHEETS & LINENS

Are your pillows old?

If your pillow is leaking some of its insides, or has a badly stained/worn cover or is several years old you're obviously a candidate for a new pillow. Sometimes your not sleeping as well as you think you should because of shoulder and neck pain and you think your pillow may be the problem, but how do you tell if your pillow is worn out?

You can check polyester pillows to see if they are worn by folding it over and placing a weight on it like a portable phone, if the pillow stays folded, its broken.

You can check feather and down pillows by folding the pillow over and squeezing out the air, if it pops open on its own, its has life left in it. King size pillows should be folded in thirds,

How much money should you spend on a pillow? Consider that you spend one third of your life in bed and that you will keep your pillow for many years,  buying a $3.00 pillow is not the best bargain. They only last six months to two years and don't offer good support.

Taking care of pillows

1. Fluff pillows regularly. Fluffing allows pillows to breath in fresh air and retain their natural shape.

2. Use both a pillow cover and a pillowcase. Wash them both often, this will help prevent soiling the pillow and increase the lifetime of your pillow greatly.

Washing: Pillows should be washed periodically for sanitation and when they have lost a their ability to regain shape easily or they seem flatter than they should. Washing will restore fluffiness and original shape.

1. You should wash pillows in tumble type washer if possible, set on delicate. Use very little soap and cold or lukewarm water. A soap that is easily dissolved is preferred. Run an additional rinse cycle to ensure all soap is removed.

2. Tumble dry on low to medium heat. It will take several cycles to dry the pillow(s). Fluff non-latex pillows between cycles.
